Celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day with Uhuru Furniture & Collectibles -- support economic development and self-determination by and for the African community!
Make your MLK Day significant and meaningful! Participate by helping bring in resources for health and economic development in the black community through this volunteer activity with Uhuru Furniture & Collectibles (UFC), an economic development project of the African People's Education and Defense Fund (APEDF).
Our 2-hour program starts bright and early at 10am, with historic clips about MLK and the Civil Rights Movement, community discussion about the ongoing struggle for justice by the black community, and the continuing work of the African People's Education and Defense Fund today. The outreach service project begins after the program ends at noon.
Volunteers will work in teams to spread the word about UFC's fast & free donation pick-up service by hanging door flyers in designated sections of the city. PLEASE DRESS WARMLY -- you will be working outside! Brief training, snacks, and water will be provided. The day of service is concluded with a complimentary pizza lunch for all participants!
Drivers wanted for the day. If you have a car and are willing to transport others to doorhanging sites, please let us know!
The black community faces conditions today that are worse than in the 1960s. APEDF is struggling to end the same disparities in poverty, health, unemployment, unjust imprisonment and substandard education that were fought by MLK and the Civil Rights Movement.
Everyone is welcome! Your participation makes a difference. Great opportunity for groups and individuals. We look forward to working with you on MLK Day!
REGISTRATION FOR THE EVENT WILL CLOSE ON FRIDAY 1/13 AT 6PM.
