Van Trip: Ambler Arboretum, Meadowbrook Farm, and Bryn Athyn Cathedral

Friday, June 17, departs at 8:45 am departs from Wister Center The Ambler Arboretum of Temple University is a 187-acre-site that encompasses the Ambler Campus. The diverse grounds include beautifully designed gardens and impressive trees. Its three areas of focus are sustainability, the health benefits of gardens, and the history of women in horticulture, agriculture, and design. Horticulturist Kathryn Reber, former gardener for the Scott Arboretum, will be guiding our tour. Our second stop of the day will be Meadowbrook Farm to tour, lunch, and shop. Meadowbrook, in Jenkintown, is the legacy of J. Liddon Pennock, Jr. (1913-2003). Seven of the 25 acres contain the private house, display gardens, and garden center. In 2004 Meadowbrook Farm became a nonprofit affiliate of the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society. Our final stop will be the awe-inspiring Bryn Athyn Cathedral overlooking the picturesque Pennypack Creek Valley in Bryn Athyn. To view the craftsmanship of the building inside and out, combined with the lovely gardens surrounding this impressive cathedral, will be the perfect close to our day. Our tour will be led by horticulturist Danielle Odhner. Travel by vans with Scott Arboretum staff. Bring your own lunch. Limit 27 Members: $45 Non-members: $85 Register online or call 610-328-8025.
