Rave reviews have followed this exquisite piece since its composition in 2007. Piffaro commissioned Philadelphia composer Kile Smith, and the ensuing CD, performed with the choir The Crossing, directed by former Chicago Lyric Opera conductor Donald Nally, has received wide critical acclaim. Vespers is a mesmerizing piece, not only for its sheer aural beauty, but because Smith truly created a transcendent sonority within the limits of the Renaissance instruments.
