According to the National Institutes of Health, about 50,000 new cases are reports annually. Events such as the annual Golf Classic enable the Parkinson Council to continually raise funds to provide financial grants to local hospitals and universities dedicated to promoting research into the causes and cure for the disease in addition to educating patients, caregivers, health professionals and the general public about the chronic neurodegenerative illness.
