ABOUT

See the film that turned Lon Chaney into a star. Set in 15th century Paris, this 1923 silent classic set the standard for horror films. Chaney’s tortured performance and complex makeup would influence generations of actors and directors. Join us for a very special presentation with live theatre organ accompaniment by Brett Miller that will make you feel like you are in the famed church with Quasimodo, Esmerelda, and the evil Jehan for an  experience that you won’t forget – and one that can’t be found in most movie theaters.

THE ORGANIST

Brett Miller was a finalist in the American Theatre Organ Society’s Young Organist Competition and has been performing across the country over the last decade, specializing in the art of silent film accompaniment.  He is an active advocate for the education of the presentation of silent films and performing the scores to them “live to picture”.  He has been featured with the New Jersey  Capital Philharmonic at the Trenton War Memorial, and opened for a sold-out appearance by George R.R. Martin, author of Game of Thrones.  Brett was also featured on the PBS Channel’s State of the Arts and in the Philadelphia Inquirer’s “We The People” for organ accompaniment and his advocacy for the preservation of silent films.  He and his brother founded musicalpromise.org, a musical initiative that helps fund the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. This philanthropic work earned Brett a White House Student Film Festival honorable mention.  Brett is currently an undergraduate student at the Eastman School of Music. As a child, Brett was involved in the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra along with many school-related musical organizations.  Brett continues to be involved in various organizations including Empire Film and Media Ensemble; the Garden State Theatre Organ Society; the Rochester Theatre Organ Society; the American Theatre Organ Society; and the Historic Pipe Organs at Boardwalk Hall.

This program benefits the Theatre Organ Society of the Delaware Valley (TOSDV) Theatre Organ Restoration Fund. For additional information visit TOSDV.org; email [email protected].

There is plenty of parking near the theatre, and it’s free on Sundays!

ABOUT THE FILM

In 15th-century Paris, Jehan (Brandon Hurst), the evil brother of the archdeacon, lusts after a Gypsy named Esmeralda (Patsy Ruth Miller), commanding the hunchback Quasimodo (Lon Chaney) to capture her. Military captain Phoebus (Norman Kerry) also loves Esmeralda and rescues her.  Her empathy for Quasimodo leads to an unlikely bond, and after vengeful Jehan frames Esmeralda for the attempted murder of Phoebus, Quasimodo’s feelings are put to the test.
