Lead singer of the band 10,000 Maniacs until she left the group to pursue a solo career in 1994, Merchant releases her sixth studio album on May 5, 2014. Her literate, socially conscious songs solidified her position as a frontrunner among women in pop music in the early ‘90s, and she has enjoyed even more success in her solo career.
Merchant's new self-titled album shows her at the height of her talents, displaying the distinctive voice that has attracted a devoted audience for over 30 years. The album consists of entirely new works and is her first collection of original material since 2001's Motherland.
