The first annual Pop-Up Adventure Play Tour is bringing opportunities for child-directed play with everyday materials to children across the United States, including a stop at Smith Memorial Playground & Playhouse for a play workshop on Friday, April 11th, 6-8pm, and a Pop-Up Adventure Playground on Saturday, April 12th, 1-4pm. Pop-Up Adventure Play is a non-profit organization working internationally to address the decline in opportunities for child-directed play.
Friday's workshop is for parents, teachers, childcare professionals, or anyone interested in exploring the value of play in children's development. Pop-Up Adventure Play will introduce and refine key concepts and essential methods from playwork, including risk/benefit analysis and how to apply the concept of playwork at home or in any setting. Time to play and light refreshments are included! Tickets are $25.
The workshop is just for adults, but families are invited to Saturday's free day of play at Smith to play, create, build, and explore with Pop-Up Adventure Play's van full of loose parts.
