The 19th Annual Philadelphia Portuguese Heritage Festival, part of PECO Multicultural Series summer events, will take place on Sunday, June 17th on the Great Plaza at Penn's Landing, Philadelphia's premier riverfront entertainment destination.

An event designed to bring attention to the Portuguese-American immigrant's contributions to the city of Philadelphia. Free and open to the public inviting to all ages and races. A variety of traditional foods including Portuguese Sardines, Portuguese "Chourico, desserts and beer make up only a small part of the extensive menu. A sampling Portugal's distinct wines, spirits and cheese, revolutionary art, folklore dancers and International music sensations are expected to draw thousands of visitors from across the Tri-State Area.

The gates open at 1:00 P.M. on Sunday, June 17, 2012 with the traditional flag raising ceremony, with the presence of various American and Portuguese dignitaries followed by a blessing of the fleet aboard the Tall Ship Gazela. The Tall Ship Gazela is originally a Portuguese ship and as of June 15th 2012, the official tall ship of Philadelphia.

The Philadelphia Portuguese Heritage Commission is the non-profit organization responsible for funding and producing events in celebration of Portuguese Heritage in commemoration of Portuguese Day ("Dia de Portugal), celebrated throughout the world on or around June 10 of every year. The PPHC was founded by Portuguese-Americans with the sole purpose of building and sustaining awareness of the Portuguese culture and the attributes of Luso-American businesses to the city of Philadelphia. Over 30 years old, the PPHC is the active nucleus in yearly events held at Penn's Landing driving thousands of Americans and immigrants alike to a day-long event showcasing traditions from the mother country of Portugal, Brazil, Angola and the Azores Islands.
