TEDxPenn is having our annual conference on April 1st at Penn’s Annenberg Center. We have 10 speakers this year, including movie director Anthony Russo, a Guinness world record holder for making robots out of ice, a CNN top 10 hero and the first African-American pediatric surgeon trained fully in the US, just to name a few. All students can use the code STUDENT10 to purchase $10 tickets. Our speakers include: 1. Anthony Russo, director, producer and screenwriter (and Penn alum!) best known for directing films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and the co-producer of Everything Everywhere All At Once 2. Steve Gross, Founder and Chief Playmaker of Life is Good, a non-profit organization that trains and supports early childhood professionals (“Playmakers”) 3. Rep. Jordan A. Harris - Democratic member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, representing the 186th legislative district, and chairman of the Pennsylvania Legislative Black Caucus for the 2017-2018 legislative session. 4. Dr Ala Stanford – the first African-American female pediatric surgeon trained entirely in the US, best known in recent years for being the founder of the Black Doctors COVID-19 Consortium (BDCC) which vaccinated >4,000 individuals in marginalized communities and earned her recognition by Forbes, one of Fortune Magazine's 50 Greatest Leaders and CNN as a Top 10 hero. 5. Shahd Batal – Sudanese-American Youtuber, digital content creator, and influencer encouraging critique of ‘diversity and inclusion’ conversations, narratives surrounding American Muslims and pushing for more safe spaces for minority girls and women. 6. Christopher Tucker - manages Yale House Ventures, a portfolio of social ventures and technology companies that span the worlds of energy, geospatial, sensor, cyber-security, open source, and social media technologies, across the domains of defense/intelligence, international affairs, civilian government, commercial industry, NGOs, and academe. 7. Dr Henry Daniell, W.D. Miller Professor and Vice Chair of Basic and translational Sciences at Penn Dental - leading academic in biopharmaceuticals and infectious disease prevention 8. Devin Caroll - PhD student the University of Pennsylvania, expert in robot design increasing accessibility through building robots from natural material. Known for IceBot, Guinness World Record recipient for the first robotics made from ice. 9. Lyn Godley - a senior professor and internationally exhibited artist who teaches Industrial Design studios at Jefferson and has developed a cross-disciplinary concentration in Lighting Design with a focus on Light as Experience. 10. Peikun Shi - popular contemporary artist who advocates for the unique perspective of integrating mental health and art. Opening remarks will be spoken by Penn President Liz McGill, and refreshments by Insomnia Cookies and Saxby's will be provided. We hope to see you there!
