Today, amateur archaeologists called The Privy Diggers are invited into people's backyards to locate the underground structure of the privy itself, and dig in hopes of finding 18th and 19th century artifacts. A privy can hold broken and whole bottles and crockery, coins, pipes, toys and anything else that someone 100-200 years ago wanted to dispose of.
