Outreach Exhibition: 5+1 Sense Ability and Awareness

Celebrate the vibrant and colorful work created by children and adults with cognitive and physical disabilities in Main Line Art Center's Outreach Programs. The Art Center is proud to be one of the leading visual arts organizations in the region to make art accessible to diverse groups in the community. This year's exhibition theme, 5+1: Sense Ability and Awareness, highlights the increased sense of awareness that becomes a positive strength for those with a disability. Students from the Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired created self-portrait busts from clay. Teens from Presbyterian Children's Village created ceramic sculpture and glass plates, while children, teens, and young adults with cognitive disabilities from the Exceptional Art and Elwyn Education Division Programs created colorful prints, ceramic bowls and painted seasonal still-life from fresh produce. Each work of art provides an intimate view of how an individual perceives themselves and their relationship with world around them, reinforcing the power of art to communicate what often cannot be said in words. The artwork can be seen at Ludington Library in Bryn Mawr, Gladwyne Library in Gladwyne, and Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped in Philadelphia. An opening reception will be held at Ludington Library in Bryn Mawr on Saturday, May 18, 1-3 pm.
