PHILADELPHIA, January 16, 2015 ”If you want to learn more about Philadelphia history ¦ or have ever thought about being a Philadelphia tour guide ¦ you're in luck.
The Association of Philadelphia Tour Guides (APT) will hold its annual training series on city history, architecture and culture on two weekends this March, and the public is invited.
"A Guide's View of Philadelphia" runs 9 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, March 14 and 15, and on March 21 and 22. The first weekend covers the city's founding by William Penn up to its time as the Nation's capital. The second looks at 19th and 20th century Philadelphia and into the future.
The program includes lectures by top local professors and authors, plus guided walking tours and coach tours by senior APT guides. Classroom sessions take place at the Liberty View Ballroom, Independence Visitors Center mezzanine level, 6th and Market Street, Philadelphia.
Program speakers include some of the region's top experts, such as: Judith Giesberg, Ph.D., author of two books on the Civil War; John Andrew Gallery, recently retired Executive Director of the Preservation Alliance; George Boudreau, Ph.D., author of the highly regarded "Independence: A Guide to Historic Philadelphia; and Alan Greenberger, Deputy Mayor for Planning, City of Philadelphia.
Attendance may be limited, advance registration is recommended, and you can choose to take the whole series, one weekend or even just one day.
