This October, Fairmount Water Works Interpretive Center (FWWIC) is offering free educational and entertaining programs suitable for the entire family. Science Saturdays are open to the public on October 2, 9, 26, 23 and 30 from 2-4 p.m. at half hour intervals. Children and their parents will explore the Schuylkill Rivers edge and South Gardens of the historic Fairmount Water Works and collect fallen leaves or the last of the seasons flowers. At the Interpretive Centers lab, FWWIC educators will guide attendees in discovering exactly which species of tree or plant theyve found. To top it off, participants will press and preserve their samples into take-home mementos. In addition to Science Saturdays, FWWICs Sunday Movie Matinee will screen Liquid Assets each Sunday in October at 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. This 90-minute documentary describes the design, construction, and political & economic challenges currently facing our nations aging water infrastructure.
