Whether an antiques collector or amateur aficionado of British country homes, The Royal Oak Foundation lectures make it easy to brush up on all things Anglophile. The Foundation's trusted panel of experts is traveling to Philadelphia this fall for the series, well-respected for its original topics and distinguished lecturers. Lisa White is the director of Attingham Summer School, a highly regarded training program and think tank for issues on the conservation and preservation of English country estates. The increasing importance of a domestic, settled home underlies much of Austen's novels, so White will reference the Austen's oeuvre as well as writing and pattern books to provide examples of English homes during the Regency period. The perfect follow-up to this season's batch of English period films, including Brideshead Revisited, as well as last season's movies now out on DVD (Becoming Jane, perhaps?).
