For the Sake of Free Vision: ARTIST RECEPTION

For the Sake of Free Vision - an exhibition hosted @ DVAA in Gallery 2 - May 2nd - 13th Printmaking in various media + methods, by DVAA member Bill Brookover

Opening Reception: Wednesday, May 2nd from 6-8pm
Artist Reception: Saturday, May 12th from 1-5pm

DVAA is proud to host For the Sake of Free Vision, an exhibition in Gallery 2 of work by Bill Brookover made through various printmaking processes. This exhibition runs concurrently with the DVAA hosted exhibition in Gallery 1, Through Our Eyes.

Free vision, like free speech, is fundamental to life in a free and creative society. Josef Albers argued that free vision must be open to multiple points of view. Bill Brookover’s training in architecture taught him to use geometry as a generator of form, and led him to freely explore possibilities within clearly defined limits. Bill Brookover works within a self-proclaimed narrow visual language, which he then explores as fully as possible from multiple directions. His approach is akin to that of a researcher in a field of psychology or physical science: establish a control before imposing variables. Using triangles, lines, and textures within a grid, Brookover pushes and pulls the grid, and rotates the triangles to create points, lines, and planes, sometimes as positive shapes, sometimes as negative space. These become explorations of color harmonies/contrasts to express the unpredictability that accompanies human perspectives -- different moods/emotions within a common motif.

DVAA thanks our 2018 exhibition sponsors Seed&Space and DeFino Law Associates
