Shimmering like a crystal and fractured into 12,000 mirrored pieces of stainless steel, Jordan Griska’s new sculpture Wreck comes to light for the first time at Municipal Pier 9 on the Delaware River. Philadelphia Contemporary presents the multifaceted and life-size representation of a Mercedes Benz S550, crushed and splintered as if crashed, for its only public viewing before its final installation in a private collection. In the raw space of the marine building of Pier 9, the digitally designed and meticulously hand-crafted artwork evokes questions of luxury and humbleness, design and technology, as well as freedom and mortality.
