Over the past 25 years he has the pleasure of playing with many incredible artists including Matt Mitchell, Ralph Bowen, Gene Perla, Joel Frahm, and Rudresh Mahanthappa as well as with Philly jazz heroes Bootsie Barnes, Larry McKenna, and Sid Simmons.

In 2018 Doug completed an artist residency at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts resulting in a 10-piece suite exploring gentrification, inequality, and musical legacy in Philadelphia with collaborators Ursula Rucker, M’Balia Singley, Tim Motzer, and John Swana.

In the summer of 2022 Doug was commissioned by Philadelphia Jazz Project, along with his wife, Keisha Hutchins Hirlinger, to compose "Water Speaks" as part of an exhibit at the Philadelphia Water Works titled "POOL: A Social History of Segregation.”
