Weavers Way Co-op’s Executive Chef Bonnie Shuman is teaming up with Awbury Arboretum for a completely zero waste, farm-centric dinner at Awbury’s historic Francis Cope House. The menu will feature seasonal, sustainably grown and chemical-free produce from Weavers Way farms, founded nearly 20 years ago on the grounds of the Arboretum, creating a hyper-local dining experience. The farm is a very unique aspect of this dinner since Weavers Way is one of the only Co-ops in the country to operate their own farms and grow sellable produce. Chef Bonnie’s recipes are also no-waste by design, and all menu components will be used or composted, to the fullest possible extent.
The four-course, family-style menu will be served at communal tables on and around the covered porches of the Cope House. Tickets are $50 and all proceeds benefit the Arboretum’s ability to operate as a completely free public park and green oasis in the midst of the City of Philadelphia’s Historic Germantown neighborhood. The dinner is BYOB and also offers diners the option to actively participate with creativity and environmental consciousness, by bringing their own re-useable, non-disposable place settings, and/or nature-themed decorative accessories. Alternatively, place settings will be available for rent for a $5 donation to the Weavers Way Environment Committee, which benefits a local greening micro-grant program.
