The Crossing: Month of Moderns 3: At which point

Friday, June 18, 2021 - 6:30 PM
to Saturday, June 19, 2021 - 6:30 PM

6:30 PM - 6:30 PM See all dates and Times

The Crossing, “America’s most astonishing choir,” (The New York Times) takes audiences on a thought-provoking aural journey from the rolling landscape of a historic, urban arboretum. Commissioned for this amplified outdoor performance, the world premiere of Wang Lu’s At which point explores the emotional peaks and valleys of 2019 Pulitzer Prize winner Forrest Gander’s raw, brutally honest poetry. With its “gift for lending social activism poetic form,” (The New York Times) The Crossing will also perform an expanded version of Ayanna Woods’ Shift, a multi-layered contemplation on the reimagining of our monuments. Concluding the program, the U.S. premiere of David Lang's the sense of senses explores the power of our five senses, an apt reminder as we emerge from a time when much of that human connection has been absent.

This performance takes place on the grass at Awbury Arboretum so please bring your lawn chairs or blankets. The space will open beginning at 5:30 PM and you are encouraged to come early to bring a picnic (alcohol is permitted) or walk the grounds. There will be no late entry so please plan accordingly and check-in early. There is no on-site parking; street parking is available on Chew Avenue and Washington Lane. There will be a 5-10 minute walk from the parking to the event space. This experience cannot safely accommodate personal mobility devices.

Advanced purchase is required as there will be no on-site sales. No printed tickets will be sent so ticket holders should be prepared to show their email confirmations at check-in. All attendees are expected to wear a mask unless seated with their party and maintain 6-feet social distancing from those not in their immediate party.

The singers and audience are spatially distanced using The Crossing’s Echoes Amplification Kits, which allow an intimate performance while observing pandemic-time protocols. Audience members will be seated inside an expansive circle of singers and should remain in the designated seating areas apart from the singers at all times. The performance will last approximately 60 minutes. In the case of inclement weather, this event will likely be cancelled, and ticket holders will be notified.
