'Voodoo In America' Art Opening

"Voodoo In America� is an art exhibition designed to show the beauty and the healing power of the traditional religion of Haiti – dispelling the myths and misconceptions of society. The exhibit is will show a replica of a Voodoo Sanctuary "humofor�.You will find a replica designed to provide a real Voodoo experience in an artistic form. This replica will awaken 4 out of the 5 major senses in a person. Patrons will be able to see actual items found in a Voodoo sanctuary such as the peristyle, an 8-foot pole in the center of the sanctuary floor an asson used by high priests and priestesses, decorative altars, sequined flags, beaded bottles and veve's (symbols) drawn by hand with cornmeal on a real dirt floor. Patrons can expect to see thought provoking photographs showing Gro Mambo in spiritual possession with the different Loa in ceremony - in full regalia, dancing, healing and giving spiritual baths. They will smell the incense commonly used in a Voodoo sanctuary used to clear the air and invite positive energies. The will hear the drum rhythms - the heartbeat of every ceremony, ritual and gathering calling the Loa that guide us everyday. They will hear the shanti's (prayers) sung by the congregation in ceremony, led by world renowned Voodoo High Priestess, Gro Mambo Angela Novanyon Idizol (www.gromambo.com) and be able to touch (if they choose to) and experience a real cleansing rinse that will be available for all to cleanse themselves of any negativities before they enter into the "Humofor�.
