Frequently Asked Questions: What is a Doula and why do I need one? A doula is a non-medical birth companion who is educated in all aspects surrounding pregnancy, birth and post-partum. They offer informational, emotional, and physical support before, during and after birth. If this is your 1st pregnancy or your 5th, it is wise to understand that if you don’t know your options, you don’t have any! A doula provides a nonjudgemental, safe place to express fears and get answers and options! A doula has a plethora of resources to help you on this journey to motherhood! A doula is like having tea with your best friend on a sunny day! She listens intently and responds compassionately because she understands. She will encourage you and provide tools to empower you to have the peaceful, compassionate birth that you desire and teach you how to be the best advocate for yourself and your baby!

How can a doula help you? You can have unlimited access to your doula via txt or email during normal business hours throughout your pregnancy and for a short time post-partum. A doula will answer your questions and educate you on your options. She will help structure your day to include all the necessary preparations like stretching and meditation. She will help you create an informed birth plan. She will teach you how to be excited about your birth while maintaining flexibility and acceptance as your birth unfolds. Additionally, you will be included in the weekly newsletter which includes information and fun activities for enjoying your pregnancy, fear eliminating techniques (no fear=no pain!), diet and nutrition guidance, recipes, date ideas and much more!

What is the difference between a doula and a virtual doula? A virtual doula will provide everything a doula provides except for in-person meetings and birth attendance. Although a virtual doula can not provide physical support, she will teach your birth team how to support you so that you feel encouraged and empowered! You can do this!
