Did you know that the emperor Constantine sent his mother Helen to the Holy Land in 326 to preserve the sites named in scripture and collect items left by Jesus and his family and His followers? These items made their way throughout Europe and were fundamental in the development of the great basilicas and cathedrals. For example the crown of thorns is housed in Notre Dame in Paris. The garment Mary was wearing in Bethlehem at the birth of Our Lord is in the Cathedral of Chartes in France. Many have heard of the pilgrims who have made the Camino walk in Spain to venerate the relics of Saint James. The spread of Christianity throughout the ages is very much linked to the incredible stories of the great relics and how they connect us to our roots. Come hear from Deacon Jerry and his journey to discover the Great Relics of the church and the graces contained in their memories.
