AI is playing an increasingly significant role in STEM fields. While some STEM professionals are worried about losing their jobs to AI and automation, AI is expected to augment rather than replace most STEM and professional roles, with tech occupations benefiting from AI-driven demand. It is more important than ever to align education with industry needs to secure a future in which STEM professionals can thrive.
To help advance this conversation, Omaha STEM Ecosystem invites business, education and nonprofit leaders to Connecting Pathways, the first event in the 2026 STEM Connect Series, for an evening of insight and community connection.
As STEM roles continue to evolve, the conversation is shifting from simply filling open positions to identifying the kinds of thinkers who can adapt and succeed as those jobs change. Dr. Victor Winter, Computer Science Professor in the College of Information Science & Technology at the University of Nebraska Omaha, will address that challenge in a keynote exploring the growing disconnect between industry demands and what education currently allows in the age of AI.
Presented by MCL Construction, this free event will feature interactive demonstrations, facilitated discussions connecting business and education leaders around Nebraska's future workforce needs.
