Dickens, Drama and Culinary Delights

Join Douglas County Historical Society for an evening of libations, heavy hors d'oeuvres and high drama as Gerald Charles Dickens performs "Sikes and Nancy", an excerpt from the classic Oliver Twist, written by his great-great-grandfather Charles Dickens. The beautiful 1879 Victorian-style home of General George Crook is the perfect setting for this unique one-man live theater performance. Guests will have the opportunity to mingle with Mr. Dickens before he takes to the stage. The performance will be followed by a Q & A session and conclude with a champagne toast Most of Charles Dickens’ readings were safe, well-known and often comic passages from his novels, but when he introduced “Sikes and Nancy” into his repertoire in 1869, audiences experienced Victorian theater at its most dramatic. Gerald Dickens of Oxford, England, is an actor, director, and producer who travels throughout the world showcasing his talents. He has been staging adaptations of his great-great- grandfather’s works for more than 30 years in theaters, libraries and schools, and on ships. Omaha is one of only two mid-west stops on his 2024 tour. Seating is limited. For more information and tickets, please call 402-455-9990, email [email protected], visit www.DouglasCoHistory.org, or stop by the General Crook House Museum.
