Václav Malý Exhibit

Václav Malý (19 February 1874 – 9 October 1935) was a Czech painter and a documentarist of kroje. He was born in Prague into the family of a salesman. He was a student at the prestigious Academy of Fine Arts in Prague between 1900 and 1906 where he was a student of professor Brožík and professor Schwaiger. The Vienna exhibition in 1910 put him on an international stage. Václav Malý was an impressionist who first focussed on Old Prague and Prague streets in general. Later he turned to painting the Chodovia countryside and people. He also worked in Eastern Moravia - Slovácko. Both Chodovia and Slovacko are well known for their colorful kroje. In 1919 Kratochvil and company published a collection of 110 Václav Malý reproductions in "The Beauties of Czechoslovakia". Our Museum has received a set of these reproductions as a donation from Přenosil-Klitz Alliance to honor Tomáš Přenosil and his family from Žďár nad Sázavou, Czech Republic. The government of the Czech Republic has provided finances to display these reproductions through a grant to our museum. The museum has individual and boxed sets of note cards featuring these reproductions available for purchase. This is a free event.
