International Women's Weekend of Comedy - Starring: Iris Benson

Join us for International Women's Week, and 3 days of comedy from some fiercely funny females!
This year’s Headliner is Iris Benson! 
Iris is one of the funniest women in the industry and this year's winner of the Vermaas comedy award.
This award was created in loving memory of comedian and women's rights activist, Aleix Vermaas, whose life was cut short by cancer. She was far too young and had so much more to say.
 In response to this tragedy, The Lounge created this scholarship award to honor her, and all women in the comedy industry.

Why do we need a women's comedy scholarship?
As a traditionally male-centric performance medium, women have had less opportunity to be seen, and even less freedom or encouragement to share their honest points of view.

We are making space in the stand-up comedy industry for women with less traditional points of view. Representation is important and women have been left behind, underbooked, and undervalued when they don’t fit the expectations of the industry standard.

By funding talented and funny women, we can do away with the gatekeepers who see women in comedy as a novelty and/or stereotype.
Iris will Be joined by these other talented women: TIlly, Sarah Raffaella, Brittany Hargis, Krystal Moore, and Reese Samuels.

Dress to impress on Friday and Saturday as we will have a professional film crew in to tape a comedy special for this very talented artist.

ABOUT IRIS:

Iris Benson’s comedy has been described as “Bleak and honest ”, “pleasantly dark”, “wonderfully weird”. Glenn Sumi of Toronto Now described her as “least likable”, “angry” and “misanthropic”.

Her deadpan delivery and off-kilter point of view have made people laugh in cities all over the US.

She is a Bay Area favorite on many local showcases and invited to many comedy festivals including The Santa Cruz Comedy Festival (Santa Cruz, CA), Cape Fear Comedy Festival (Wilmington, NC) most recently the Idaho Comedy Festival (Boise, ID), the World Series of Comedy (Las Vegas, NV) and The Savage Henry Comedy Festival (Eureka, CA).
