Hampton City Schools Visual and Performing Arts Department presents the FREE series in conjunction with Arts for Learning Virginia. Arts for Learning Virginia’s Atumpan The Talking Drums ignites the stage with drumming and masterful storytelling, bringing West African agricultural traditions to life while celebrating the powerful connection between music, culture, and the foods that nourish us. Artist: Nfon Asuquo Program: Interactive Visual Art 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM in the 19th Century Gallery Led by nationally renowned artist, Nfon Asuquo, with a background in clothing design, painting, and graphic design, participants will leave this session with take-away art products based on a one-of-a-kind theme just for A Splash of the Arts! Artist: Lia Janae Program: Dominican Dance 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM in the 19th Century Gallery Get ready to move with Dominican Dance by Arts for Learning Virginia’s Lia Janae! Students will explore the vibrant steps, music, and cultural traditions of Dominican dance in an engaging, high-energy experience. No dance experience needed, just bring your enthusiasm and get ready to join the fun! Artist: Stephen Christoff Program Colonial American Music 11:00 AM - 11:50 AM in the Crabtown Gallery Travel back to colonial times with Arts for Learning Virginia’s Stephen Christoff! You’ll tap your toes, sing along, and hear amazing instruments from early America, like the jaw harp and even a musical saw! Artist: Taikoza Program: The Spirit of Taikoza: The Japanese Drum 12:00 PM - 12:50 PM in the Great Hall Gallery Feel the thunder of the drums with Arts for Learning Virginia’s Taikoza! Bamboo flutes sing, Taiko drums boom, and Japan’s sights and seasons come alive in this unforgettable celebration of sound and culture. Artist: Dai Poole Program: Games Around the World 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM in the 19th Century Gallery Travel the globe through play with Games from Around the World with Arts for Learning Virginia’s Dai Poole! Participants will discover games that began in other countries and became popular here in the United States, all while exploring culture, connection, and fun. Jump in and join the fun as we play, learn, and connect through games from around the world! Artist: Jennifer Gammill Program: Elephant’s Gerald 1:00PM - 1:50PM in the Crabtown Gallery Arts for Learning Virginia’s Jennifer Gammill celebrates jazz icon and Newport News native Ella Fitzgerald through song, rhythm, and storytelling in this engaging musical tribute. Artist: Riddick Dance Company Program: One 2:00 PM - 2:50 PM in the Great Hall Gallery Arts for Learning Virginia’s Riddick Dance brings everyone together through the power of voice and rhythm. This high-energy performance combines drumming, song, and storytelling to celebrate kindness, friendship, and unity, showing how music connects us all.
