‘Colors Against Cancer’
In 2003, 11-year-old Edgemont student Taylor Matthews was diagnosed with bone cancer. She wanted something good to come from her battle against cancer, so she created Tay-Bandz to raise public awareness about childhood cancer and fund pediatric cancer research.
For many years the community has gathered to support Relay for Tay, an event honoring Taylor. As a tribute to her and to extend the focus of the Relay event, “Colors Against Cancer,” a 5K color run, will take place Sunday, May 7, at 9 a.m. at Edgemont High School and the surrounding neighborhood. As they run, jog or walk, participants will be showered with nontoxic color powders, creating a beautiful rainbow of color. Wear sneakers and white clothing!
The event will bring together the Edgemont community to support the fight against cancer, celebrate cancer survivors and raise funds for pediatric cancer research. All the money raised will be donated to the Taylor Matthews Foundation, a Tay-Bandz organization.
