Join the happy hour book launch for Todd Cirillo’s Happy Hour Heart of New Orleans (Roadside Press) 7pm Friday September 11 at The Schooner Saloon 700 Burgundy St. The party features Todd Cirillo (New Orleans), Julie Valin (California), Sean Munro (New Orleans), Matt Amott (Oregon) along with free swag, drinks, pirates & poems to fill your heart. “Cirillo’s poems are like a neat shot of high-proof whiskey”. Free event! Happy Hour Heart of New Orleans is a collection of New Orleans-born poems and photographs that exists somewhere between first kiss and last call. A connection to a city shaped by contrasts. A love letter and treasure map—guiding locals, visitors and barflies through its resilience, corruption, humor, loss, unrestrained joy, unkept hope, unspent love and, in the end, the best spot in the house for one’s ashes. Todd Cirillo was born of bastard lineage. He has many books and misdemeanors. Books include: Sucker’s Paradise, Burning the Evidence, ROXY, Kisses from a Straight Razor, Disposable Darlings, Three Poets Walk Into a Bar, & his newest, Happy Hour Heart of New Orleans from Roadside Press. His poems have appeared in numerous national and international literary journals, magazines and on cocktail napkins everywhere. He is editor and co-founder of Six Ft. Swells Press. Todd lives in New Orleans, Louisiana where he seeks out shiny moments and strange wisdom while looking pretty. www.toddcirillo.com Sean F. Munro is a poet and professor of English at Delgado Community College in New Orleans. He is associate editor at Lavender Ink / Diálogos Press, Festival Director of NOPF, co-curator of ((field generator)) an experimental reading series, and founder of LitWire, the literary events calendar of New Orleans. His poetry, criticism, and translation have appeared or are forthcoming in Heavy Feather Review, Delta Review, New Delta Review, Jacket2, Annulet, mercury firs, & peel lit. Julie Valin is a literary harlot and a professional collector and styler of books on her nightstand. She has been writing poetry since AC/DC was played at school dances, and her work has appeared in numerous publications and collections, including Gasconade Review, Red Fez, Chiron Review, and the Punk Rock Chapbook series by Epic Rites Press. Her most recent book of poetry- Songs for Ghosts – was released in April 2022 by Meadowlark Press. She lives in the foothills of Northern California. Matt Amott is a poet, musician and photographer who rambles around the Pacific Northwest. He believes in the power of the short poem and feels less words make a bigger impact. His travels around the country inspire his poetry, especially when it’s done by train. Matt is co-founder of Six Ft. Swells Press and has been published in numerous collections as well as three books of his own, THE COAST IS CLEAR (Six Ft. Swells Press), GET WELL SOON and THE MEMORY OF HER (both by Epic Rites Press). He can be reached at [email protected] or you can send him a postcard!
