Andrew Fisk presents Generating Challenges: Hydropower on the Connecticut River

There are a total of sixteen large dams along the Connecticut River, and more than a hundred small hydropower plants across the entire watershed. These facilities have the capability to produce up to 470 megawatts of power in total, and hydroelectric power production offers many benefits to the power industry. However, dams also present significant dangers to river health: they impede the movement of fish and damage the natural landscape in numerous ways. Join Andrew Fisk, Northeast Regional Director for American Rivers, for a lively presentation on the development of hydroelectric dams in the Connecticut River watershed, the technology behind them, and their consequences, both good and bad, for our state. Light refreshments will be provided. Andrew Fisk has worked in conservation across New England for over 25 years, serving in roles across Maine and Connecticut state government, and holding the position of Executive Director of the Connecticut River Conservancy for over 11 years. He is energized by working with local communities to find environmental problems and fix them so that everyone can be sustained by the benefits of nature. Please Note: the Connecticut River Museum may record this event, including all questions, comments, etc. by the audience. By participating, you agree to allow the recording to be posted on the Connecticut River Museum’s website, Facebook page, Instagram feed, and other media.
