The idea for this toe-tappin’ celebration was born after last year’s Community Needs Survey, where residents overwhelmingly asked for more country and bluegrass music at our summer concerts. Parks & Recreation took that feedback to heart, crafting a festival that not only brings beloved music genres to the forefront, but also pairs them with some down-home fun and delicious eats.
“I wanted to create something unique that ties music and food together, much like the Potato & Corn Festival I started in North Branford,” said Parks & Recreation Director, Pamela Gery. “And really—who doesn’t love BBQ wings?”
The festival will feature two fantastic bluegrass acts, Goodnight Blue Moon and the Kat Wallace Band, with a high-energy headlining country band Austin City Lights.
Admission is free and open to all ages, with food, drinks, and select attractions available for purchase.
Festival-goers can enjoy a variety of country-style contests and activities, including:
* Mechanical bull rides
* Axe throwing
* Cowboy Boot Toss
* Mash Potato Throw
* Country Cornhole Tournament
* Best Country/Bluegrass Costume Contest
And don’t be surprised if a little line dancing breaks out along the way!
Whether you’re a longtime country fan or just looking for a fun summer evening on the Green, Wings N Strings promises great music, great food, and good old-fashioned fun.
