Living History Event: The Eve of Battle. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Battle of Stones River began early on Dec. 31, 1862, but that was not the case for the soldiers on the southern end of the battlefield where intense fighting raged throughout Dec. 30, 1862, as the U.S. Army of the Cumberland's Right Wing pushed its way into position.
