Guest Artist: Scott Holden, piano


Holden is a prizewinning musician, pedagogue, collaborator, and published author who has performed in more than forty U.S. states, as well as numerous countries around the world. Currently serving on the piano faculty at Brigham Young University, Holden holds degrees from the University of Michigan, Manhattan School of Music, and the Juilliard School. Tickets are “Pay as You Wish” ($0 - $30) and required for admission. Reserve tickets: http://vu.edu/102324-tix Holden’s recital program is a riveting combination of an epic work, the Liszt “Sonata,” juxtaposed with new pieces written only in the last few years. Holden was a classmate of Blair piano professor Heather Conner at the Manhattan School of Music. The program will include: “Distances between 2” - Ron Warren “Noel Lee Sonata in F-sharp Minor, D. 571” - Franz Shubert “Sonata No.1” - Alban Berg “Symphonic Jazz Suite” - Lisa de Spain “Sonata in B Minor, S. 178” - Franz Liszt Master Classes A dynamic soloist and educator, Holden will also teach two master classes for the piano area on Thursday, October 24 in Turner Hall: - 2:30-4:00 p.m. - Collegiate Master Class - 5:30-7:00 p.m. - Blair Academy (precollegiate) Master Class About Scott Holden: “Scott Holden plays with obvious commitment…and limpid lyricism…he tackles the keyboard acrobatics fearlessly,” writes Fanfare Magazine.
