About Jon Hamar:
Jon Hamar currently serves as associate professor of jazz & classical double bass at the University of Tennessee Natalie Haslam School of Music in Knoxville. A versatile and in-demand performer, his extensive performance history include work with Ernestine Anderson; the Jeff Hamilton Trio; and the Clayton Hamilton Jazz Orchestra, directed by Jeff Hamilton and John Clayton, and featuring acclaimed vocalist Cecil McLaren Salvant. His recording credits include the Jeff Hamilton Trio album Catch Me If You Can and holiday release Merry and Bright.
He previously served on the faculty of the Centrum Jazz Workshop in Seattle, Washington, under the artistic direction of John Clayton, and has also taught at Central Washington University, Northwest University, and Edmonds Community College.
Hamar holds a bachelor of arts from Eastern Washington University and a master’s in jazz and contemporary media from Eastman School of Music. He was appointed to the faculty of the Natalie Haslam School of Music in 2015.
