On May 9th author Kate McCord will be sharing what it was like to live in Afghanistan as an aide worker for the organization she founded. Unlike most military and civilian Westerners, she did not commute to work from a giant military base. She lived without barbed wire, and protected mostly by word of mouth.
Kate learned to speak and read Dari, which was necessary as she journeyed into the aouli the domain of the Afghan family compounds. She shares what is was like to encounter the threats of culture, religion and unwritten rules. Given the dangers she faced for over five years – it took incredible courage, love, and sacrifice to leave everything she had in the US and stay in a place where her presence was judged every moment of every day.
