He first gained prominence in the mid-1990s as the frontman of Fluid Ounces, a band that became a cornerstone of Murfreesboro’s iconic Spongebath Records scene. In addition to his solo work, Timbs has collaborated and performed with an impressive roster of bands and artists, including sElf, Spike and Mallets, Hot New Singles, The Long Players, Brendon Benson, Leticia Wolf, Bill Lloyd, and many others. These collaborations underscore his versatility and respected status within the music community. Throughout his career, Timbs has been praised for crafting engaging melodies and thought-provoking lyrics, drawing comparisons to artists like Harry Nilsson and Randy Newman. His music continues to resonate with audiences, reflecting his dedication to his craft and evolution as an artist. Matt and The Watt Gives marks a soulful return for Matt Pelham, frontman of beloved Nashville indie-rock staple The Features. Known for his distinctive voice and heartfelt songwriting, Pelham’s new solo project refocuses his creative energy after nearly a decade of “grown-up junk,” as described by his daughter and album artist, Edith Pelham. In a glowing review by Nashville Scene’s Stephen Trageser, the self-titled debut album is praised for blending “thoughtfulness and an ass-kicking degree of rock”—drawing playful parallels to Dr. Dog, Split Enz, and echoes of the Kinks—infused with biting guitars, sweet melodies, piano, sax, and melodica . The album, released on June 13, 2025 via YK Records, digs deep into personal terrain: “Cutting Ties” confronts echo chambers on social media; “The Chemo Blues” responds to probing questions about Pelham’s cancer survival; “Half the Fight” serves as an apology, and the closer “For Every Dream” beautifully expresses gratitude for life’s winding path .
