MainPlace, a three-story super-regional shopping center in Santa Ana, California (https://www.shopmainplacemall.com), will host a day of education and fun in honor of Día de los Muertos on Saturday, October 28th, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. During this event, there will be live performances in Macy’s Court, including Aztec dancers (2 p.m.), Día de los Muertos storytelling (3 p.m.) and a cumbia band (4 p.m.). Throughout the center, participants will have fun engaging in a sugar skull decorating workshop, having their likeness drawn by a local caricaturist, taking selfies in front of eight-foot-tall murals, being inspired by local painters creating on-the-spot works of art, and learning basket weaving in the MyPerks Lounge (must be a MyPerks member to attend). Children will enjoy the Kid Zone where they can transform a skeleton-style fabric dog into a colorful alebrije and professional face painters who will bring little catrinas and catrines to life with half-painted faces honoring those that have passed and left deep scars. An Aztec Zone in the Food Court will provide the public with a chance to learn more about Día de los Muertos customs and culture. And the first 300 children to visit the welcome table in Macy’s Court will receive a swag bag filled with goodies and treats. This event is free and open to the public; no pre-registration is required. Swag bags and craft materials are while supplies last. To learn more, visit https://www.shopmainplacemall.com/events.
