ZEALOUS HELLIONS December 1st, 7:00 PM CST Ellie Krug in conversation with Hal Sansone For the final ZEALOUS HELLIONS offering of 2023, Mixed Blood welcomes esteemed writer, lawyer, school board member and human Ellie Krug in conversation with Hal Sansone of the Trans Voices Cabaret Minneapolis on Friday, December 1st at 7:00PM CST at Mixed Blood Theatre. From the courtroom to the classroom, Ms. Krug has been hard at work fighting for a more just, more inclusive society for all. After a year serving the East Carver County School Board as one of only eight openly transgender or nonbinary school board members nationwide, Ms. Krug will reflect on the work being done to protect trans kids in schools and on her work changing hearts and policies from within systems of all kinds. Hosting the conversation with Ms. Krug is Hal Sansone, trans performer and activist. He is one of the organizers behind the Trans Voices Cabaret which will be hosted at Mixed Blood. ZEALOUS HELLIONS is a project of Mixed Blood Theatre to provide our community with real-time, face-to-face conversations between artists, cultural provocateurs, politicians, and thought-leaders in an intimate setting. Ellie Krug In 2009, when she was a civil trial attorney in Cedar Rapids with 100+ trials, Ellen (Ellie) Krug transitioned from male to female; she later became one of the few attorneys nationally to try jury cases in separate genders. The author of Getting to Ellen: A Memoir about Love, Honesty and Gender Change (2013), Ellie has trained on diversity and inclusion to court systems, law firms, Fortune 100 corporations, and colleges/universities on more than 1000 occasions. A hopeless idealist, Ellie has presented her inclusivity training, Gray Area Thinking®, across the country. Ellie is the recipient of a number of awards and recognition, including the 2023 Stonewall Award from the American Bar Association, a 2019 OutFront Minnesota Legacy Award, and Advocate Magazine naming Ellie as one of “25 Legal Advocates Fighting for Trans Rights.” She is also a columnist for Minnesota Women’s Press and a weekly radio host on AM950 radio, where her 300+ episodes of “Ellie 2.0 Radio” highlight idealism and idealists working to make the world better for all humans. In November 2022, Ellie was elected to her local school board in a rural-urban county outside the Twin Cities, making her one of a handful of transgender school board members in America. hal sansone hal sansone is a love poet and theatre artist. He creates in the traditions of love, joy, gentleness, and sweetness as radical acts. Upcoming work includes organizing and performing in the Minneapolis premiere of the Trans Voices Cabaret, releasing a micro chapbook with Ethel, and being a student of herbal medicine. He has been a company member with Sandbox Theatre since 2019 and holds a BA in Performance Creation from the University of Minnesota
