Your location has been changed to Minneapolis area.
Join us at Kouba Gallery for an inspiring exhibition that explores the beauty, power, and quiet presence of the Mississippi River as it flows through the heart of the Twin Cities.
In A River Runs Through It, photographer David Wheaton captures the river not just as a geographic feature, but as a living, breathing force that connects communities, ecosystems, and experiences. Spanning the stretch between downtown Minneapolis and Saint Paul, these images reveal a landscape that is at once urban and unexpectedly wild—where moments of stillness, movement, and reflection unfold along its banks.
A longtime St. Paul resident and former Macalester College leader, Wheaton has deepened his passion for photography in retirement, using the river as both subject and muse. His work invites viewers to slow down and rediscover a familiar place through a more contemplative lens—highlighting the river’s role in recreation, habitat, conservation, and everyday life.
From the quiet beauty of Fort Snelling State Park to the dynamic energy of the urban corridor, this exhibition captures the many moods and meanings of the Mississippi.
Admission is free, parking available onsite and the gallery is handicap accessible. Private showings are welcome, please contact the gallery to schedule.
