InFocus Camera Club presents DragonFly photography with John Arthur

InFocus Camera Club presents DragonFly photography with John Arthur. John started being interested in dragonflies around 1998 (about 25 years ago) when his significant other brought home a copy of, "Common Dragonflies of Wisconsin". This book opened his eyes to the fact that there were so many species (about 100). John became interested in digital photography around 2001, when a Harris' Sparrow graced his backyard and stayed for several days. John wanted to get a photo, but found that the light meter battery in his old film camera was dead. A trip to National Camera followed, and the switch to digital was made. But the Sparrow never came back. Soon after that, Three Rivers Park District held its "Year of the Dragonfly" and it was no turning back after that. In 2006, the Minnesota Odonata (Odonata is the Latin order for dragonflies and damselflies) Survey Project started, lead by Kurt Mead. When that project ended in 2012, the Minnesota Dragonfly Society was started, where John was a board member until his retirement, from the board, in 2022. The In Focus Camera Club meets the first Saturday of the month, September to May, at the First Lutheran Church in Columbia Heights. We have speakers, training on various aspects of photography, and show club members photography work Doors open at 9 AM and close at 9:30 AM. Suggested donation is $5. During the summer months of June, July and August we have photo outings to various locations to practice our skills. Locations to be announced in the spring.
