The Beautiful Not Yet: Conversations About Hope At The Growing Edge
“We can’t just be healed, we must be transformed,” believes singer and songwriter Carrie Newcomer. Described as “an outward sign of an inward and spiritual grace” by Wayne Robbins of Billboard magazine, Carrie Newcomer is a poet who invites listeners into “soaring joy as well as the hard truths of powerful love.”
Carrie Newcomer will lead this retreat day which will explore hope and our ability to be people of vision amid individual and community challenges.
Through music, poetry, reflective writing and facilitated conversation, Carrie will lead participants in exploring the stories and practices that keep us resilient. We will consider the things that help us maintain hope. This retreat does not diminish current and historic hardship or injustice, but it explores how we may hold our individual and community challenges with creative and life-giving tension, knowing that our work for a better world is not just a destination, but a daily orientation. The afternoon will conclude with the fun of writing a song as a community based upon the conversations of the morning, which Carrie will later record and send a copy to all participants.
