Belle City Brassworks, Racine’s favorite brass band, continues its 37th season on Sunday, June 7 at 3 p.m. with a Blues-themed concert. “Playing the Blues” will take place at the Frances Bedford Concert Hall at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside’s Rita Tallent Picken Regional Center for Arts & Humanities.
Admission to the concert is free; baskets will be passed during intermission to collect donations to support the nonprofit organization of volunteer musicians. Additional support for this concert comes from Roger Palmen Chevrolet of Union Grove.
The group of 42 experienced brass players, led by music director Doug Johnson, will present a concert of original American music by Louis Armstrong, Glenn Miller, George Gershwin, Maynard Ferguson and George Shearing. Soloists from the band will include Nancy Higgins Quist on Cornet, Eric Weiss on Flugel Horn and John Schoettler on Trombone.
The Brassworks will return to the Bedford Concert Hall stage on Sunday, Nov. 1 at 3 p.m. to begin its 38th season. The popular Christmas concerts will take place at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 16 at Living Faith Lutheran Church and at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 20 at Holy Communion Lutheran Church..
