Free Computer Classes at Oak Creek Public Library


Most people feel pretty comfortable with basic computer skills (clicking, accessing the Internet, sending emails, etc.). This 4-week computer class is for people who are ready for the next level of instruction. Topics include: desktop/taskbar customization, an in-depth look at the file explorer, Internet search tips, as well as guidelines to keep yourself safe while using your computer. Week 1 - February 8: Computer Personalization Learn desktop, start menu, and taskbar customization features. Modify additional Windows settings such as ease of access and user account profiles. Discuss further app/program settings in regards to delete/uninstall as well as add to startup. Learn keyboard shortcuts; particularly focusing on using the tab key, etc. Week 2 - February 15: File Management Gain an understanding of the file explorer including folders and drives. Learn key concepts of working with folders and files. Determine different file types and which apps/programs to use in association with those specific types. Learn about file space and zip files. Week 3 - February 22: Internet Tools Learn about Internet speed and web browsers. Customize your web browser (specifically Google Chrome). Discuss various Internet searching tips. Become familiar with some other aspects of being online such as downloads, extensions, pop-ups, and more. Week 4 - February 29: Cybersecurity Presentation This class is held over a 4-week period. While this program is currently scheduled to be held in-person, this can change at any time. If the program is to be held virtually via the ‘Oak Creek Public Library’ YouTube channel, all registered participants will be contacted prior to class.
