Siobhan Marks or Zeegwun Noodinese will share her deep knowledge of the connections between the fossil fuel industry and indigenous communities and our environment. She is a water protector and a passionate advocate for clean water. Old deteriorating pipelines carrying crude oil lie in sensitive eco systems threatening drinking water and the way of life for millions of people. Proposed new pipe lines under the Straits of Mackinac put Lake Superior in jeopardy. Siobhan is also an advocate for Native women. During construction of pipelines, native communities report increased rates of violent crimes including human trafficking and missing and murdered indigenous women. Siobhan will share her knowledge on these issues and allow time for questions from the audience. The event is free and open to the public.
