VIGIL TO HONOR THE INNOCENT LIVES KILLED IN GAZA
The Israeli military assault on the people of Gaza began last October. Since then more women and children have been killed in Gaza than the number killed in a single year of any other conflict over the past two decades. Israel bombed, on average, homes every 4 hours, tents and temporary shelters every 17 hours, schools and hospitals every 4 days, aid distribution points and warehouses every 15 days. More than five times more children were killed in Gaza in a single year than the number killed between 2005 and 2022 in total. Civilian infrastructure has been completely destroyed or severely damaged. The Racine Coalition for Peace and Justice, like many other peace organizations, is calling for an immediate and complete ceasefire in Gaza. The United States is the major supplier of military aid and weapons to Israel. The Racine Coalition for Peace and Justice is asking that the US not violate its own laws by providing arms to Israel. During the vigil on October 12 there will be speakers, music and prayers as well as a call to action. 42 candles will be lit, each candle representing 1000 people killed.
