On Saturday, May 2, Catalyst Miami will host its annual Be the Catalyst Summit, bringing together grassroots leaders, civic advocates, business owners, and community changemakers to develop solutions to Miami-Dade’s most urgent climate challenges. We welcome advance coverage and interviews with organizers ahead of the Summit.
Catalyst Miami Founder and Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava will keynote the event — bringing her 40+ years of advocacy experience as Miami’s designated “Water Warrior.” Panel sessions throughout the day will include local leaders and national experts discussing how climate solutions can strengthen our local economy, the intersection between our health and heat crises, how to lower our power bills through community advocacy, and more. Full agenda can be found online at www.catalystmiami.org/summit.

WHY:
From heat exhaustion waiting at the bus stop to our streets flooding months before hurricane season, Miami-Dade’s residents face daily challenges stemming from the global climate crisis. Traditional doom and gloom messaging and top-down band-aids have largely left out affected populations. The Be the Catalyst Summit flips the power dynamic, creating space for our communities to co-create solutions for the neighborhoods we know best. With sessions on economic growth through green jobs, funding community-led projects, neighborhood-based extreme weather response, and more, the Summit imagines a Miami everyone can afford, for generations to come.
The event is free and open to all, but advance registration is encouraged at catalystmiami.org/summit. Free parking, breakfast, lunch, childcare, and live interpretation in Spanish and Haitian Creole will be provided. Prizes will be raffled off at the end of the day from the Miami Marlins, Fertile Earth Worm Farm, Fairchild Tropical Garden, and the Kampong.
