The 18th annual Key Biscayne Rib Off, fiscally sponsored by the Key Biscayne Community Foundation, promises a day filled with laughter, fun, and–as the name implies–plenty of home-cooked ribs vying to win as the prime cut.
The KB Rib Off, in honor of the late Dr. Bob Kemper, co-founder of the event and the 2009 Champion, donates its proceeds to the The Dr. Robert Kemper Award for Professionalism in Medicine. The prestigious award funds a future doctor at the Florida International University School of Medicine.
Pablo Sanchis, fourth year committee member of the KB Rib Off, describes the great camaraderie of the event: “What’s special about the Rib Off is the spirit of competition. We’re competitive, but we also want to have a good time.”
This year, 23 teams will compete for the best rib in town. In between sampling the delicious meats of the competition, rib-enjoyers will have access to a BBQ buffet and live music.
“It’s an amazing community event that brings everyone together from inside and outside of the Yacht Club, and I think that’s what makes it special. Good vibes all around!” says Sanchis.
Interested rib-lovers that are a member of the Key Biscayne Yacht Club can make reservations by calling member services at 305-361-9171. Non-members can pay for their tickets at the door. More information can be found on the website www.kbriboff.org.
