The Bob Moses Research Center for Math Literacy/FIU, in collaboration with The Black Archives, proudly announces an important event for the Miami community: the Miami premier of the groundbreaking documentary Counted Out. Taking place on Saturday, February 8, 2025, from 12:00 Noon to 3:30 PM at the historic Lyric Theater in Overtown, this event addresses the critical issue of math literacy in this nation.
The film features stories from Miami Northwestern H.S. students. It seeks to inspire community action while honoring the legacy of Bob Moses, a leader who championed math literacy as a fundamental civil right. The film’s director, Vickie Abeles, will be there to answer questions.
• At noon, a MATH PLAYGROUND begins of math games led by The Young People’s Project for adults and children. Lunch served.
• The screening starts at 1:00 PM.
• At end of film screening, audience will participate in a question/answer session.
• Then, Superintendent Dr. Jose Dotres will lead us into a Call for Community Action to to address this local and national math challenge.
• At 3:20 PM, Dave Lawrence, Jr. will announce Door Prizes, which include a 6–8-night Royal Caribbean luxury cruise with an ocean view cabin.
