Butterfly Art Auction Supports Homelessness and Youth Development in Phoenix

The Phoenix Rotary 100 is excited to announce Take Flight 2024, a live art display and online auction aimed at raising funds for charities benefiting youth and homelessness. Additionally, a portion of the proceeds will benefit the Shemer Art Center. The event will take place on Sunday, March 24, from 12-3 p.m. at the Shemer Art Center, located at 5005 E. Camelback Rd. in Phoenix. Take Flight will feature more than 40 metal butterfly sculptures ranging in sizes from 12”, 30” and 48". Local artists will creatively transform blank metal canvases into original pieces to make artwork that represents the community initiative. The butterflies symbolize transformation, particularly reflecting the situations of those experiencing homelessness going through extremely transformative periods of their lives. "This initiative showcases the incredible talent of our local artists while also symbolizing our collective commitment to transform lives through art,” said Daniel Capote, chairperson and VP/president-elect of the Phoenix Rotary 100. “We hope everyone will join us in making a lasting impact on homelessness and youth development. Let's take flight together and be the change we wish to see in our community," said Lisa Henning, co-chairperson and board member of Phoenix Rotary 100. For those unable to attend the final art display, an online auction is available before the event, allowing art enthusiasts and supporters to register and start bidding before pieces sell out. Visit here to start bidding. The online auction will close at 3 p.m. on the day of the event. Visit here to purchase tickets to the bidder's reception. To learn more about the event, participating artists, and how people can contribute, visit Rotary100.org/takeflight. The Phoenix Rotary 100 was founded in 1914 as the 100th club to join Rotary International and, as such, is part of a global network of 1.4 million neighbors, friends, and leaders who volunteer their skills and resources to solve issues and address community needs. As people of action, Phoenix Rotary 100 has been at the forefront of community service in Phoenix and beyond. The organization is proud to benefit several charities including The Shemer Art Center youth programs, Family Promise, Homeless Youth Connection, Boys Hope Girls Hope, UMOM, Little Free Libraries, Friends of the Phoenix Public Libraries, Crosier Direct Assistance Program, Dream Center, ShelterBox USA, St Luke's on the Mountain pantry distribution, Outstanding Phoenix Youth Leadership Award, 92nd Annual Speech Contest, and many more.
