Chandler Fashion Center, in partnership with Arizona Students Recycling Used Technology (AZ StRUT), NXP Semiconductors and Intel Corporation, will host the event, collecting used electronics, whether working or not, to help give devices a second life.
AZ StRUT will sort the donated items, determining whether they can be refurbished, reused or responsibly recycled, ultimately keeping valuable materials out of landfills and putting refurbished technology into Arizona classrooms. This initiative addresses the growing need for technology in education and supports nonprofit programs that promote sustainability and STEM learning.
The drive will accept nearly all types of electronics — excluding televisions — at a convenient drive-up donation center staffed by volunteers from Intel and NXP. For a full list of acceptable items, participants are encouraged to visit azstrut.org.
The event will also feature hands-on learning experiences where shoppers can participate in activities that teach them how to dismantle a desktop computer, learn the components and discover how they work.
At the event you can watch NXP and Intel volunteers working together to refurbish laptop computers, which will be distributed to local Title 1 students, showcasing how simple and impactful electronic recycling can be.
Last year’s drive collected more than 3,200 pounds of electronics and Intel’s volunteers refurbished more than 50 laptops and dismantled more than 100 desktops. This year’s goal is to reach 5,000 pounds in donations.
The Electronics Drive will accept household items like cell phones, home entertainment systems, power supplies, personal computers and hardware and more. Community members looking to make a difference for the environment can bring their used technology items to Chandler Fashion Center via a convenient drive-up and drop-off format. For a full list of donatable items, visit azstrut.org.

Arizona Students Recycling Used Technology, otherwise known as AZ StRUT, started in 1997 as concept by Intel and Motorola. They wanted to get used equipment to Arizona schools and non-profits that could benefit from them. AZ StRUT started partnering with schools and having some of their computer repair programs assist in the refurbishing efforts. In 1998 we officially became a 501(c)3 with the state of Arizona and we started providing A+ certification training to the teachers and these programs. We support STEM programs with computer hardware and materials. With the help of these learners, over 150,000 devices have been given to students and community members in need in the 25+ years since our creation. We also offer classes we call “Techie Experiences” where learners get hands-on experience and education with devices to keep in the process. In addition to devices and training, we offer a way to get online with our Internet Lending Program. For additional information visit azstrut.org.
